India-UK Trade Agreements Take Effect as PM Modi Says CETA Will Boost Farmers, MSMEs and Skilled Professionals

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the India-United Kingdom Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement and the Agreement on Social Security, which came into force today, mark a major milestone in bilateral relations. He said the agreements will benefit farmers, MSMEs, entrepreneurs and skilled professionals while strengthening cooperation in trade, technology, investment, innovation and shared prosperity.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Agreement on Social Security marks a significant milestone in the India-United Kingdom partnership. Both agreements officially came into force today, strengthening bilateral cooperation across trade, technology, investment and professional mobility.

The Prime Minister made the remarks while sharing a social media post by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. He described the implementation of the two agreements as a major step forward in expanding the strategic partnership between India and the United Kingdom.

Mr. Modi said the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement will provide fresh momentum to India's farmers, entrepreneurs and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He noted that several dynamic sectors will gain stronger access to the United Kingdom market, creating new opportunities for trade and economic growth.

Highlighting the broader impact of the agreement, the Prime Minister said CETA will deepen cooperation in technology, professional services and innovation. He added that the agreement will also support greater mobility for skilled Indian professionals, strengthening opportunities for talent and expertise in the United Kingdom.

Speaking about the Agreement on Social Security, Mr. Modi said it will provide invaluable support to Indian professionals working temporarily in the United Kingdom. He added that the agreement will also enhance the competitiveness of Indian enterprises by offering greater social security benefits to eligible professionals during their overseas assignments.
